The way my schedule has been lately, I just dare anyone to try to keep track of where I am day to day!  I have been on the move day in and day out, and living quiet the life.  When I last wrote, I was still on cloud nine after just have ended an incredible weekend of luxury, but the fun did not stop there.  When I got off the plane I went almost straight to the gym, and began my last week of intense dry-land training for the year.  It was one last push to prepare myself for the upcoming season. After the last day, I have to say I was quiet thankful to not have to see the gym again for a little while!  I will still be in the gym all winter to perform maintenance strength sessions, but something about going to a gym after a nice day of skiing is easier than pushing my self all summer long in the weights.

To reward myself for a hard summer worth of work, (and to give every member of my family a long overdue birthday present, since I was not present for a single birthday last year) my family and I headed down the mountain to the city of San Francisco to watch the 49er’s play the Baltimore Ravens.  To back up a little bit, in the spring time I helped the 49er’s Foundation with there annual fundraiser in the Tahoe area. I skied with some of their big donators and was a captain of a team in the race.  They told me they would give me some tickets to a game in return.  Honestly, my family would have been perfectly happy in the nosebleed seats.  I had never been to a professional football game before, so I was just happy to be going!  Oh no, the tickets that came in the mail were to Luxury Box #1.  In other words, the owner’s box.  Ya, that is right, you are not reading wrong.  So the family from the mountains, got a little dressed up (does not happen very often) and went big wigging with the owner, former great players, senators, and who knows who else was in there with us.  One of the senators was sitting in front of us, and asked us how we got into the owner’s box.  I said “Oh, I am a skier from up in Tahoe, and this is my family.”  I probably have never seen a more baffled face in my life.  I then explained that I was on the US Ski Team and had helped with the Foundation event in Tahoe.  We ended up talking for quiet awhile, and he was a very nice and interesting man.  We got to watch the pre-game warm-up from the field, and were wined and dinned the entire game in the box.  It was pretty amazing.  The 49er’s lost which was a bummer, but I think the only one who cared in the box that they lost, was the owner!  Anyways, it was defiantly an experience I will never forget.

Then it was back to reality for a couple of days, and back to packing for my next stop.  I was packing to head back to the slopes for a couple of weeks in Europe, which is where I am now.  On my way, I stopped in San Francisco for a couple of days, as the ski team was holding its annual fundraising Ball.  Here, I got the chance to meet more of the people that donate a lot of money to keep me doing what I love, and also got to meet many athletes from different sports like snowboarding, moguls, and aerials.  It is always fun to get to hang out with other athletes and learn their stories.  The morning after the ball I boarded the plane to Europe and now find myself just 3 days away from the first race.  Woohoo!  I will let you know how it goes soon, so check back.

Every year that passes seems to get busier and busier, and this last month has been no exception.  I have been on the go day in and day out, and have hardly had time to take a breath, but I have been lovin’ every minute of it.  The month started with a two-week trip to Portillo, Chile.  If you have followed the journal for the past year, you might remember that we annually travel to Chile and always have a fantastic trip.  This year Chile got a ton of early season snow, followed by almost a month straight of sunshine.  Our time there was able to catch the tail end of that sun spree.  We were able to set up full-length downhill coarse with some big jumps and fast speeds.  One day we had the speed trap set up and we were passing through at speeds of 125 kph.  These are super realistic race like conditions and every run we took on the coarse I valued as preparing me even better for the upcoming season.  I am absolutely thrilled with the progress that was made in Chile, and itching to get back up to speed again!

Upon returning home, apparently I wanted to bring a little piece of Chile home with me in the form of a nice head cold.  That is never fun, but happens when we travel in airplanes so much, and stay at high altitudes for such a length of time.  Thankfully we have an excellent sport science team within our team that always helps us get healthy fast.  With just a couple of days at home, I was off again.  My teammate Lindsey Kildow was getting married and I was off to be in attendance.  She is happily now Lindsey Vonn if you like to follow her as well.  She had a very beautiful wedding and I am so happy for her and her husband Thomas.

This is where the real luxury starts.  Every year the US Ski Team hosts a couple of different events as fundraisers.  Because we have no government funding on our team, and sponsors can only donate so much, we rely a lot on the private sector donations to help keep us doing what we love.  The athletes try to attend these events in appreciation of everything these people give.  There was a particular event in Silicon Valley that is always fun for the athletes to attend for a couple of reasons. First, this is a family event meaning the kids get to come, and all we athletes are, are big kids! Second because one particular donor owns a charter flight service, and he provides a private jet to get us there.

This is not just a standard jet though.  It is a $51 million 12-person jet that is just amazing! I have truly never experienced anything like this.  Such a nice and enjoyable flight, I didn’t want to get off the plane.  I probably would not have, but there was a limo waiting just outside the plane when we arrived.  This was my first time in a limo also, so I really felt like I was livin’ large!  To top off the event, in the relay race with the kids, my team won with an excellent effort.  We dominated to relay course!  The dream like week came to an end when the jet “dropped me off” in my hometown airport, which was always a dream of mine to be able to fly into.  All I can say is IT WAS SO COOL! An experience I will never forget.
