Favourite course on the circuit?
Cortina and Lake Louise. All three are legendary courses and I have had good results there too!
Least favourite course on the circuit?
There have definitely been courses on the circuit that I have struggled to be fast on. St. Moritz, Garmisch, and Altenmarkt are a few of them. But over the years I have had at least a few good results on each of these slopes that I can build off of and I know with a positive attitude I can tackle any demon!
Your objectives for the winter season 12/13?
I usually don't make result based goals because those are so dependent on how everyone else does, and I can't control that. I want to ski my own personal best in each race.
Your best moment on the World Cup circuit?
Every time I have been in the top ten has been a good moment. I also love how the circuit takes me to such cool places in this world, and being able to meet so many people from all over.
Your best race memory?
Racing in the GS at the 2006 Olympics when Julia Mancuso won. It was such a cool moment and I will never forget it.
The funniest thing that’s happened to you on the circuit?
Pretty much any day around my teammate Resi Steigler is entertaining.
What do you think makes a great champion?
I think a lot of being a great champion is having a good attitude to go with the physical skills. Someone that works really hard to make themselves better is a champion in any walk of life.
When you’re in the starting gate, what goes through your mind?
Well, if it is the starting gate at St. Anton it might be something like “Oh $%!&$”. Everywhere else I just try to focus on one single element of my skiing, relax, and have fun.
You’re travelling the world all year. Do you have or take the time to take a look at the places you go? What discoveries do you look for in foreign countries?
I definitely don’t take enough time. It is hard when our schedule gets tight to not just want to go back to the hotel and sleep. I hope in the future I can do more exploring. I did get a little exploring last year. My teammate Alice McKennis and I went to Malaga, Spain for a 3 day break. I think I am going to the Canary Island during a short break this season.
What is one of your greatest adventures?
One of my greatest adventures was doing a project with the Navy in which I got to fly in an F-18 SuperHornet FighterJet at the Top Gun School. It was so amazing and I am obsessed with that kind of speed and power. It was also very motivating to be around such professionals as the pilots are. I also have started back into school and am plugging away at a business degree from DeVry University.
Your latest purchase?
I hate shopping. I think the last time I bought something for myself it was disposable foot warmers!
Over and over on your MP3 player?
Country Music, right now it is Taylor Swift and Garth Brooks!
The last time you had too much to drink?
I tend to let loose each year in April....
Who are you, in 3 words?
Resiliant, Fearless, Relentless.
Your pastimes outside skiing?
The outdoors. Anything in the water: lakes or ocean.
What do you take everywhere you go?
Everywhere? Probably my wallet and my cell phone.
The first thing you do in the morning when you wake up?
Seize the day.
Your favourite moment in the day?
The morning because you have the whole day ahead to look forward to, and getting in bed at night when I am so tired.
Your favourite joke?
How do you know if a ghost is lying? You can see right through them!
Are you concerned about the environment? Do you do anything to protect nature?
I have a hybrid car! In all seriousness, I am concerned. I want my kids to be able to enjoy the same lifestyle and passions that I get to. I think we can make a huge difference if everyone just did a few little things. Pick up some trash, recycle, turn the lights off....It is not very hard.
Are you involved in humanitarian or medical actions?
I have run the Stacey Cook/SVST Scholarship for 10 years now. I, together with Sun Valley Ski Tools, have now awarded 30+ young ski racers in America and hope to keep the program going and growing!
I also got the chance to speak at a dinner for After-School-All-Stars. It is a program to provide inner-city kids a place to go to keep them off the streets after school.
If you could invite 3 celebs to your ideal dinner, who would they be? Gordon Ramsey, Valentino Rossi, and Taylor Swift.
The person you admire the most?
My Grandpa, I love him.
Your favourite swear-word?
Those are bad.
If you were…
A food? Pizza
An animal? Eagle
A Star? Whatever O’Ryan is shooting at.
A material? Definitely not denim
A color? Red
An element? Plutonium
A place? The Great Wall of China
A feeling? Fearless
A legend? Whoever was the first man to Sky Dive, they were nuts!
A torture? Kill ‘em with Kindness
A vehicle? A Moped
A spice? Corriander
A part of the body? Not a skier’s knee.
A motto? Go get ‘em Tiger
A stupidity? Inconsistancy
Your beauty secret? Embrace your curly hair
Your favourite face cream? Sunscreen
In fashion, what would you die for? Something practical.
